COMMON GROUND

Sure, Capri is beautiful. You can enjoy endless views of mountainous green terrain that dives sharply into crystal blue water. Gaze out at opulent yachts floating around like tiny islands all their own. Purvey the endless waves of gorgeous people that fill every inch of the streets.

Or, you could just stare at the ground. On Capri, that is where my eyes love to be.

As a recovering painter, I get triggered in the best way by the deep color variation of the terrazzo and hand-clipped limestone mosaics. Natural, heavily textured stone, sitting right next to loud, glossy hand-painted tile? Show me the way.

Show me a dramatic floor, and I will show you a person who is about to hold up all foot traffic for a photo. To be fair, it doesn’t even need to be dramatic. I came across plenty of calm flooring that simply acted as an anchor for an incredibly well-appointed room. These are the silent heroes.

It may be a stretch, but the floors here seem to embody the spirit of Capri - Carefree, yet fun and flashy. Civilized, yet so wild. And with that, I promise to not talk about floors for a long time.
